As Father’s Day draws near, a time to honor and celebrate the men who have shaped our lives, let’s pause to reflect on our journeys, especially if we find ourselves entangled in the relentless overachiever cycle. Like many high-achieving individuals, are you entangled in this demanding routine of constant juggling, inability to say ‘no,’ and normalization of overtime? If so, take solace in the fact that you’re not alone in this struggle.
Overachievement often comes with success and accolades, creating a facade of fulfillment. However, the constant pursuit of attention, approval, and acknowledgment can be a fleeting source of satisfaction, leaving us perpetually unsatisfied and craving more.
Herein lies the potential: the path to true happiness and significance does not require overachievement. Instead, it beckons us to turn inward. Within ourselves, we will discover truths, desires, and innate gifts that guide us to our purpose on this earth, opening the door to personal growth and fulfillment.
Overachievers constantly bite off more than they can chew, always say “yes” to everything, and think working overtime is the norm. Many of us fall into these categories, driven by ambition and a desire to excel.
Most overachievers, including myself, are those with big dreams who like to get stuff done. But here is the challenge: constantly feeling the pressure to overdo it, whether in the workplace, at home, as a parent, or in our communities.
Being an overachiever is far from rare, as society often showers us with success and accolades. However, persistently seeking more attention, approval, and acknowledgment will never lead to enduring happiness and fulfillment. It’s a cycle that can leave us feeling empty and constantly striving for more.
The key to living a fulfilling life lies in seeking approval from within. It requires looking inward to uncover our truths, desires, and innate gifts that lead to our purpose–those talents unique to each of us that have been present since birth.
Unfortunately, we often underestimate these gifts, believing they aren’t unique or significant. But the truth is, these gifts are inherent to us and are the essence of who we are. We don’t need to struggle or invest heavily in education to master them; they are already within our grasp, waiting to be recognized and nurtured.
Shifting our focus from seeking external approval to tuning inward is key to breaking free from the overachiever trap. We can find fulfillment with much less effort by embracing, refining, and experimenting with our natural gifts.
By acknowledging and embracing these gifts, we can unleash our true potential and live a life of purpose. So, relinquish the need for external validation and embrace your inner power. We become our most powerful selves when we find our approval from within.
